LIFE VISION 3 - Concluded

In the School of Nursing, she was much loved and cited as a model for other girls to emulate. In her 2nd year at the School of Nursing, the Principal took interest in her and one day sent for her and tried to find out her background and other details about her. Not given to saying much, she just told the principal that she is an orphan who is fending for her self to fulfil her life vision of becoming a Nurse. The Principal stated that she was worried for her social life because she had never seen her with a boy on campus, but the girl replied that for her the most important thing in her life was to be a Nurse and that after that she would then begin to give attention to other things of life. The Principal was very impressed with her responses that she decided to offer her a personal scholarship to complete her studies.

The final year of her studies was on the scholarship of the School’s Principal but that did not stop her from continuing with her hand work, but rather this time she was using the proceeds to support her brother and sisters who were also suffering in the hands of their Uncles and Aunties to whom they were farmed. The Principal literally adopted her and asked her to be visiting her house as often as she pleased, though she did not abuse the priviledge but she visited frequently and got on familiar first name terms with the Principal’s children and all of them liked her so much.

LIFE LESSON 3 CONTINUED

One evening, after she and her siblings had come back from school and preparing their night food, her Father’s first sister came to the house, she inquired after her father and was told that he was not around and so she decided to wait for him. When he came back later in the evening, he met his sister waiting for him and he was surprised seeing her. He asked her to stay the night, so that they could talk over what brought her in the morning, she agreed. In the early morning while the girl was preparing her siblings for school and also getting ready her self, they heard voices coming from the sitting room and they were the voices of her father and his sister and her father was talking and shouting at the top of his voice, suddenly his voice ceased and she heard her auntie shout ‘ewoooo, ewooo, onye no nso o o o’ (meaning who is near by) she rushed to the sitting room with her brother to see their father slumped on a seat there and his sister just crying, they called him and shook him but he was not moving and they joined in crying and calling his name, the woman ran out of the house to get help and by the time she came with men of the household (which was like eternity to the young children of this man), it was quite late but all the same,  they quickly took him to the hospital which was about an hour away, on reaching the hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival. The woman was devastated and was asking herself ‘what have I done? What have I done?  I have killed my brother!!!”

LIFE VISION 3

Hello there and welcome to this broadcast

In continuation of our discussion on life vision, here is another story of a young girl who passed through the vicissitudes of life to live her vision.

She was born into an average home (both Parents were Teachers) as the 3rd born but first daughter of 6 children of her parents. She enrolled in the Primary School when she was 5years and continued to the Secondary School when she was 11 years. One day, her Father summoned her and her siblings to discuss their life ambitions, she stated that she was going to become a Nurse.

On a cold Sunday evening, when she was in the third term of Class 2, her parents had gone out for a family visitation with her older brothers and asked her to look after her other siblings. On their way back, they had a terrible accident and her mother died on the spot; the two boys and their father had severe injuries and were taken to the hospital, one of the boys died on the way to the hospital while the other boy died after 2 days in the intensive care unit. Her father’s first sister had to come down to be with her and her other siblings (2 girls and a boy) while they waited for her father to recover and then plan for the burial of her mother and her two dead brothers.

LIFE VISION 2

Hello there and welcome to this broadcast

In my earlier post today, I had told you of the vision I had when I was a young boy and which helped me today to be what I am.

I also did tell you that unless a man has a vision for the life that he is living, he is more or less a passer by.

Here's another story of a man who had a vision for his life

I am not at liberty to name him but you may recognize him from the story

His Father died when he was 3 years of age, he was the 7th child of the parents and the 4th son. As at the time his father died, his eldest brother was in Primary 5 and the responsibility of fending for the children fell on his mother. Their pitiable condition was not even looked upon by his Uncles as they connived to rip his mother of all the properties including land that his father had left behind.

His eldest brother only completed the Primary School and went ahead to learn a handwork - tailoring
When he was 6 years old, his mother enrolled him in the only Primary School in his village, but he couldn't go beyond Primary 3 because of hardship, but as young as he was when he dropped out of school in Primary 3, he told himself that he was going to win the war of life and that nothing was going to discourage him from making it in life.

LIFE VISION

LIFE VISION

It is popularly said that a man who does not have a vision certainly is on a journey to no where.

Life is meant to be lived and not to be endured and to live a life worthy of emulation, one must have a vision.

The vision captures one’s reason for existence; it is the very essence for which one is alife.

A life vision gives one a longer staying power than a no-vision life.

What is a vision?
The Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary defines vision as “an idea or a picture in your imagination” and it also goes further to state that vision is “the ability to think about or plan the future with great imagination and intelligence.”

From this definition, anyone who does not have a dream of what he wants to accomplish in life is actually a passer by.

When I was a teenager, I decided that I was going to be a Medical Doctor, the idea of helping sick people get well appealed greatly to me and made me arrive at that decision. I visualised myself as a Medical Doctor. So some where along the line I lost that vision because I could not get admission to read Medicine in the University so I ended up doing an NCE in Biology/Chemistry and becoming a teacher subsequently after the NYSC programme. But four years down the line of being a Teacher, I was bitten by that bug which had earlier given me a vision as a Medical Doctor; so I had to abandon everything I was doing, I did odds and bits to be able to pay my way through the Medical School and in 1991 I graduated from the University of Calabar with the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Degree which effectively made me a Medical Doctor and gave me the license to be fulfilled in life.
