LIFE VISION 3 - Concluded

In the School of Nursing, she was much loved and cited as a model for other girls to emulate. In her 2nd year at the School of Nursing, the Principal took interest in her and one day sent for her and tried to find out her background and other details about her. Not given to saying much, she just told the principal that she is an orphan who is fending for her self to fulfil her life vision of becoming a Nurse. The Principal stated that she was worried for her social life because she had never seen her with a boy on campus, but the girl replied that for her the most important thing in her life was to be a Nurse and that after that she would then begin to give attention to other things of life. The Principal was very impressed with her responses that she decided to offer her a personal scholarship to complete her studies.

The final year of her studies was on the scholarship of the School’s Principal but that did not stop her from continuing with her hand work, but rather this time she was using the proceeds to support her brother and sisters who were also suffering in the hands of their Uncles and Aunties to whom they were farmed. The Principal literally adopted her and asked her to be visiting her house as often as she pleased, though she did not abuse the priviledge but she visited frequently and got on familiar first name terms with the Principal’s children and all of them liked her so much.

In her 26th year of life, she graduated from the School of Nursing and Midwifery’ That graduation day was a glorious dawn for her as she carted away 11 of the 14 awards available in the School and this brought close to 600, 000 naira into her kitty an amount of money she had never seen in her life time. Her brilliant performance also enabled her to be automatically employed by the General Hospital to which the School was attached.

On being employed, she rented a 3 bedroom apartment and quickly sent for her brother and sisters thus bringing them together under one roof since their father died. She did her best to ensure that they also undertook educational pursuits.

2 years afterwards, she became engaged to the Principal’s Medical Doctor first son who had just completed his NYSC and after a courtship that lasted for almost one year, they were married at a very lavish wedding ceremony which was the talk of the town.

She decided that she was going to give her toast her self during the wedding reception but as she handled the microphone to give the toast, she burst out crying and this elicited sympathy cries from her siblings but when all calmed down, she told her story as her toast and urged all girls there who were passing through hell to keep going through it until they land in heaven as she had done. People sympathized with her but also thanked God that she was strong enough to wade through all the difficulties and betrayals of relatives.

3 years after marriage, she bought land in their village and built a befitting house in memory of her parents for her brother and she prospered greatly.
