LIFE VISION 3

Hello there and welcome to this broadcast

In continuation of our discussion on life vision, here is another story of a young girl who passed through the vicissitudes of life to live her vision.

She was born into an average home (both Parents were Teachers) as the 3rd born but first daughter of 6 children of her parents. She enrolled in the Primary School when she was 5years and continued to the Secondary School when she was 11 years. One day, her Father summoned her and her siblings to discuss their life ambitions, she stated that she was going to become a Nurse.

On a cold Sunday evening, when she was in the third term of Class 2, her parents had gone out for a family visitation with her older brothers and asked her to look after her other siblings. On their way back, they had a terrible accident and her mother died on the spot; the two boys and their father had severe injuries and were taken to the hospital, one of the boys died on the way to the hospital while the other boy died after 2 days in the intensive care unit. Her father’s first sister had to come down to be with her and her other siblings (2 girls and a boy) while they waited for her father to recover and then plan for the burial of her mother and her two dead brothers.

After 2 weeks in the hospital her father was discharged home, but he was not his usual boisterous and happy person when he came back from the hospital. News of his discharge was spread abroad and people came around to sympathize with and condole him over the disasters that came his way. After one week of deeply mourning his wife and dead kids, he decided to raise money and bury them. He went to his bank Manager and asked for an overdraft but the sum he asked for was far in excess of what his monthly salary could carry, so the Manager advised him to ask for what his salary can carry and this was far less than he needed to bury the dead. He went to the Teachers’ Co-operatives to ask for a loan, and was told that he has to tie his salary to the loan, and this he could not do since he was already taking a loan from the bank; he summoned his siblings (2 brothers and 2 sisters) to help him raise money to enable him bury the dead, they tried the much they could and eventually after 6 weeks of their death, the dead woman and her two boys were buried, it was a very sad day for the family.

After the burial and every one went back to their homes, her father’s first sister who had come to keep them company all that while also went back to her home, so she was left to be the care giver to her other brother and sisters while her Father continued to provide food.

In all these weeks, the girl could not go to School. However when she eventually resumed schooling, she was so far behind that she found it very difficult to cope, even with all the encouragement by her father, she just could not make it and so failed the promotion examination and was asked to repeat Class 2.
